Destruction of political bill baords got to its height yesterday when officials of the Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency destroyed the bill board of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin and replace it with that of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The billboard, erected along the popular Ring Road opposite Law Hub building, was destoyed, removed and replaced by that of the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi by officials of the agency on Saturday.

The wife of the governorship candidate, Mrs Angela Folarin told newsmen in Ibadan on Sunday that she was on her way out for a meeting on Saturday evening when she saw some boys with the support of the armed policemen attached to the Operation Burst numbering about 20.

According to her, she had taken the pictures when she was chased by the policemen to Shoprite where she was harrassed.

She said some officers of the Operation Burst security agency assaulted and nearly take her life on Saturday following her taking photographs of some people who were pulling down her husband’s bill board around Ring Road area of Ibadan Oyo State Nigeria.

“As my car moved a bit towards Mobil area, I saw that three Operation Burst vehicles were in hot pursuit. I asked my driver to drive towards the mall where I suspected there would be many people and they would not be able to harm me.

"They nearly hit my car while pursuing us and when we got into the premises of the mall; they caught up with me and I identified myself as Folarin’s wife. They then shot into the air and left the place,” she said.

She explained that her husband had paid for the two sides of the  bill boards, when the agency decided forcefully take one part of it for the governor.

Folarin who disclosed that the operation was led by the Director General of the agency's director general Yinka Adepoju, said "they nearly hit my car while pursuing us and when we got into the premises of the Shoprite Mall; they caught up with me and I identified myself as Folarin’s wife. They then shot into the air and left the place.”

When Leadership visited the scene, the poster of PDP governorship candidate, Teslim Folarin had been replaced with that of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

It also gathered that nearly all the posters of the PDP governorship candidates had been destroyed by suspected All Progressives Congress (APC) political thugs.

Policewoman attached to Oluyole Police Division who pleaded for anonimity, said the Commissioner of Police had directed nobody should be seen near the bill board.

But in a swift reaction, the director general OYSAA, Mr Yinka Adepoju, said the billboard was assigned to "us but some people went there to remove the Ajimobi poster and replace with that of Teslim.

"Since we don't want to be violent, the incident was reported at the police station. So it was not true that we remove Teslim poster for Ajimobi," he said.

According to him, there is clear evidence that the billboard was assigned to us. He said since the Police Commissioner is investigating, "we should wait for the conclusion before we know the real owner of the board." when  we contacted the owner of the bill board, Stephen Ibulu told our correspondent in a telephone interview that OYSA had threatened to remove the billboard if he failed to paste Ajimobi poster.  Ibunu who apologised to Mrs Folarin on the incident they have even threatened to cripple his business in the state.

He pleaded with Folarin and assured that another places would be allocated for him

"I have contacted elders in the industry and they advised that I should take it easy with them since they are only using state powers," he said.
