There was pandemonium yesterday at All Progressive Congress (APC) rally for its candidates in Gbagada axis of Lagos, as political thugs clashed at the venue, injuring two persons.

Vanguard gathered that the clash started midway into the campaign when one of the speakers was addressing the party members and supporters who thronged the venue of the campaign.

Sources said the campaign was initially peaceful with members dressed in the party attire. But skirmish started with each group brandishing different types of weapons.

It was gathered that one of the group, which arrived at the campaign late started the hostility. While the fracas lasted, many had to run in different directions for safety.

The police were able to revive one of the thugs who was stabbed and laid on the ground helpless. More policemen were then drafted to the scene to maintain peace as the thugs were driven out of the venue.

Sources said teargas canisters were shot outside the campaign ground after the thugs had been driven out which made many to troop out of the venue before Fashola began his speech.

While delivering his speech, Governor Babatunde Fashola, accused President Goodluck Jonathan of showing impunity on Lagos roads, saying “the President and his party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) removed business banners already paid for to fix theirs without consulting the appropriate authority.”

Fashola lamented that the action of the President and his party has shown their desperation ahead of the February 14th election.

According to him, “Today also, I saw the desperation of the President and his party. On the third mainland bridge, all the president posters and banners have flooded it. In the constitution, the local government has the responsibility to manage advert; that is one of their sources of generating revenue.

“And they have been working with Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency (LASAA) not only to clean up the state but to put an institutionalized framework for advert management. But the President and his supporters have taken over the advert spot on the road.
