As part of efforts to enhance agriculture in the country, Uganda has concluded plans to distribute 100 million coffee seedlings to farmers across the country, CEOAFRICA.com gathered from Kampala.

According to Uganda Coffee Development Authority executive director, Henry Ngabirano, the distribution would commence very soon throughout the country. He explained to members of the parliament, while honouring their invitation, that although a request has been made to the finance ministry to release funds for 100 million seedlings, the money that has been available so far can only enable them to distribute 41 million seedlings.

A member of the parliament, Mathias Kasamba therefore assured that government would release necessary funds needed for the remaining seedlings to be procured, since the funding is justified because coffee is the leading foreign exchange earner for the country generating $422.4 million every year. The second leading foreign exchange earner is fish at $117 million.

Meanwhile, the government has completed building storage facilities in Kakofa in Kapchorwa, Pakanyi in Masindi, Kapeka in Nakaseke, Gulu, Nyakatonzi in Kasese, Amuru and in Jinja. This would ensure food security in Uganda.
