Dr. Adekoya Olatunde Owosibo, the esteemed Provost of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, is set to host a pivotal workshop in celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
This event is organized by the Network of Nigerian Women in STEM in collaboration with the Nigerian Women in Agriculture Research for Development. The workshop, themed "Women and Girls in Science: A New Era for Sustainability," will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Dr. K.J. Nwufor Hall in Moor Plantation, Ibadan and is set to commence by 10:00am.
This workshop emerges as a crucial initiative aimed at empowering young women and girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, addressing the pressing need for greater female representation and involvement in scientific disciplines. Dr. Owosibo asserts that the workshop is not just timely but essential.
In an official statement to CEOAFRICA, he expressed, “As we navigate the challenges posed by climate change and technological advancements, it is imperative that we engage the next generation of women scientists. This workshop will equip them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make meaningful contributions to sustainability and innovation.”
The event promises an engaging agenda featuring renowned experts in various fields. The distinguished speakers include Prof. Oluwatoyin O. Akinola, Dr. Ayojesutomi Abiodun-Solanke, Dr. Oluwafikemi Iji, and Dr. Omolara Jemimah Ojeizele. Participants will engage in comprehensive discussions on pressing topics, including the future of women in science, dismantling stereotypes and biases, and cultivating leadership capabilities. The workshop aims to create a dynamic environment where aspiring female scientists can collaborate, share experiences, and inspire one another.
Dr. Owosibo believes that the workshop's impact will extend beyond individual participants; it has the potential to influence entire communities. “By empowering women and girls in science, we not only foster innovation but also contribute to building sustainable communities and a better future,” he remarked.
