The Medical Director of the Apapa General Hospital, Dr. Elizabeth Oduwole, has asked health workers in the country to improve on their services to better the health sector.

She added that the workers should cherish their profession, and be more committed to the task of saving lives.

Oduwole spoke at the 50th anniversary of the hospital, a statement said on Tuesday.

She said, “Health workers should know there is enormous dignity in labour and we should cultivate the habit of exhibiting perfection in whatever we lay our hands on while on the line of duty.”

Oduwole said both patients and their relatives would appreciate the services rendered by the workers if enough attention was given to them.

A member of the hospital governing board, Benjamin Molawunye, commended the state government for the renovation of the hospital, urging the staff members of the hospital to reciprocate the gesture through positive attitude towards patients.

The anniversary was also used to stage a send-forth party for two retiring workers at the hospital, Mrs Lanre Popoola, Chief Matron; and Mr Yisau Folorunsho, a health pharmacy attendant.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Olawunmi Salako, who was represented by his wife, Mrs Adebisi, appealed to the workers to take a cue from those retiring and be good role models by being outstanding and exemplary in the discharge of their duties.

Adebisi, a retired radiographer, said, “Being a good boss to your subordinates will make you happier when you are extensively praised at your retirement for a job well done while in the service of the state.”

On better life after retirement, Mrs. Aramide Bolanle, who represented the state head of service, advised the retirees to avoid anything that could affect their health.

She said, “Brisk exercise on a daily basis should be encouraged to keep fit, just as you should lessen the in-take of salt, avoid acquisition of jewellery, marrying more wives, bearing more children and unnecessary borrowing.”
