The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has constituted a six-member fact-finding committee to investigate the recent poor performances of the country’s national teams, with particular focus on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The federation, in a statement on Friday, said the committee would pay “specific attention” to the circumstances surrounding the Falcons’ failure.

The nine-time African champions missed the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament began in 1991 after losing 2-1 to South Africa in a continental playoff on Thursday.

The Falcons had earlier missed out on one of Africa’s four automatic qualification places after a quarter-final defeat to Cameroon at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Former NFF General Secretary, Fanny Amun, will chair the committee, which includes former Flying Eagles coach, Ladan Bosso; former Super Falcons captain, Desire Oparanozie; ex-Super Eagles star, Mutiu Adepoju; and former referee, Alex Mana.

The chairman of the Sokoto State Football Association, Nasiru Sa’idu, will serve as secretary.

The Falcons’ failure comes less than a year after the Super Eagles also missed qualification for the men’s World Cup, losing to DR Congo on penalties in the African playoff.
