Enugu tanker explosion: Victim’s family gets relief materials from Ebonyi Govt

Items and cash worth millions of naira were donated by Ebonyi State government to the family of Jeremiah Nwaji who died alongside his wife, six children, brother and three servants at the recent Ugwu-Oyeama tanker explosion in Enugu State.

The wife of Ebonyi state governor, Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru donated the items on Wednesday when she paid a condolence visit to the family in Abofia village in Ebonyi local government area of the state.

The unfortunate incident which took place on the 25th January, 2025, wiped scores of road users, including children, and injured many others.

In her condolence message to the family, Mrs Nwifuru described the situation as unfortunate and prayed God to rest the souls of the deceased and grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.

In their separate reactions, the Chief of Staff, Professor Emmanuel Echiegu, the Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, the Chairman of Ebonyi local government, Chinedu Uburu, enjoined the family to be strong in faith and thanked Ebonyi State government for putting humanity in the forefront of its chatter of needs agenda.

Speaking, the brother to the deceased, Nwajị Ezekiel explained that their deceased brother and family were coming back from Onitsha in Anambra State where they based for their father’s burial when the ugly incident took place.

He called on the government to facilitate the provision of a legal framework that would stop tankers and heavy duty vehicles from operating on the day time to reduce the number of casualties recorded as a result of tanker explosions in different parts of the country.
