The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, has warned those cloning the Permanent Voter Cards of the implications, saying they will be detected on the day of election.

He said culprits would be apprehended and prosecuted according to the provisions of the Electoral Law.

Agbaje gave the warning on Tuesday at a political stakeholders’ meeting on the general elections convened by the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo.

The traditional ruler called the meeting to inform the people of Ondo Kingdom of the need to ensure peaceful elections in February.

Agbaje said, “Those trying to clone the PVCs or buy the cards from those having it will be arrested if they present it at the polling units. Such cards will not work on the day of election because they will be detected by the smart card reader.”

He noted that each smart card reader would be unique to a particular polling unit, making it difficult for anyone to use any card not registered in that polling unit.

Agbaje noted that the voter register had been presented to all political parties in the state as required by law.

He noted that about 445,000 PVCs were still awaiting collection in the state less than a month to the elections.

According to him, only a total of 858,040 PVCs had been distributed so far out of the 1,317,497 cards received, representing 65.13 per cent.

The Osemawe said he did not belong to any political party, and would not want to see a repetition of post-election violence witnessed in the country.

He said the Osemawe in Council and the traditional rulers of Ondo town were not politicians, but were only interested in the reign of peace in the kingdom.

Kiladejo called on the politicians to allow peace to reign and urged INEC to be fair to all, while admonishing the police to discharge their duties well.
