IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN NIGERIA GETS $400M SUPPORT FUND FROM WORLD BANK

The World Bank has in a bid to support development projects in the country, offered $400 million (N64billion) for the development of Nigeria’s irrigation system.

CEOAFRICA news desk has gathered this statement was made by an anonymous source to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to the source, the $400 million would be used to boost existing irrigation schemes that had not been functioning optimally and other water management projects, particularly those located in the north-west region of the country.

He also pointed out that effort were being made to ensure the completion of uncompleted projects, stressing that it will start with Bakolori Irrigation scheme and subsequently move to other projects in other parts of the country.

He however explained that it would be unwise to start new projects when old ones are yet to be completed and considering the financial constraints in the country.
