With 111 days left until "IFEADIGO 2025", the 44th Annual International Scientific Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), scheduled for July 22 to 27, 2025, at the International Conference Center in Awka, Anambra, we reflect on the remarkable figures who have shaped the landscape of this great state.

One such renowned figure is Dr. Alex Ekwueme, born on October 22, 1932, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. He emerged as a prominent politician, architect, and businessman, serving as the first executive vice president of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983. Dr. Ekwueme’s contributions to Nigeria’s political and social development are immeasurable, and his legacy continues to inspire leaders and citizens alike.

In recognition of his immense impact, the Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (FUNAI) was renamed Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) on February 2, 2018, serving as a lasting tribute to his dedication to education and public service.

As we gear up for "IFEADIGO 2025", themed "Technology Integration and Personalized Care: The Future of Community Pharmacy Practice," it is essential to recognize the influential role of leaders like Dr. Ekwueme in shaping the future of our communities. The conference will provide a platform for exchanging ideas and celebrating the progress made in healthcare and beyond.

Anambra is often hailed as the "Light of the Nation," a title that embodies the state’s commitment to excellence, education, and innovation. The term IFEADIGO translates to "light has come," symbolizing the spirit of enlightenment, progress, and hope that the conference aims to promote. Together, let us honor the legacy of great leaders like Dr. Alex Ekwueme as we move toward a brighter future!
