CHOLERA CLAIMS 8 LIVES IN OYO STATE

The Egbeda community of Oyo State, Nigeria has in the present outbreak of Cholera in the area lost 8 people and 10 people currently hospitalized at the council’s Health Care Centre.

CEOAFRICA news desk gathered from the statement of the state Commissioner for Health, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, and his counterpart from the Ministry of the Environment and Habitat Lowo Obisesan, that distribution of drugs and sterilization of water had already started to fight the scourge in the community.

According to the Press Officer, Ministry of Health, Cosmas Oni, the state governor, Governor Ajimobi responded promptly to the health hazards by sending the health officers to the area to mediate in curbing the deadly outbreak.

Meanwhile, the community is said to have a population of about 282,000 people with only one primary health centre.

The Health Commissioner who blamed the source of the disease to the community improper use of the environment, however promised that the state would further respond to the outbreak by building a modern hospital to prevent a future recurrence.
