ABDULLAHI DIKKO INDE, COMPTROLLER-GENERAL, NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE
The cargo warehouses belonging to Skyways Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) and the Nigeria Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) PLC have been closed down on Thursday by the NCS Boss, Comptroller-General Dikko Inde Abdullahi.
CEOAFRICA news desk gathered that the aviation warehouses were closed down for the alleged inability of the companies to explain the improper documentation of goods exits from the warehouse, inability to produce customs release documentation, evidence of payment for import duty and other statutory charges.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mrs. Thelma Williams, the closure was an after effect of series of meetings between the Customs Area Comptroller, Mohammed Dahiru Umar, with all stakeholders, including cargo agents and freight forwarders associations.
The Public Relations Officer further purported that the action of the command is in line with the statutory powers conferred on the Nigeria Customs Service as provided under sections 145(1) (b) and 5 of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) CAP C45 LFN 2004, (as amended) and other extant regulations.
Meanwhile, officials of both companies disclosed they were still in discussions with the Nigeria Customs Service in resolving the matter.
