As we countdown to the 56-day mark leading up to the 44th Annual International Scientific Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), we take this opportunity to pay tribute to a monumental figure in Nigerian education and historiography: Kenneth Onwuka Dike.

Kenneth Dike was born in Awka, Anambra State, he was a trailblazer, serving as the first Nigerian Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria's premier institution of higher learning. His tenure marked a significant turning point in academia, as he was instrumental in advancing African historiography through his innovative perspectives.

Dike was not just an academic; he was a pioneer in utilizing oral traditions within a multi-disciplinary approach to interpret African history. His work emphasized the importance of indigenous narratives and methodologies, challenging the dominant Eurocentric frameworks that had long overshadowed African histories. He is widely regarded as the “father of modern African historiography,” having played a critical role in guiding a generation of African historians to interpret their own histories independently and authentically.

Prof. Kenneth Dike's contributions laid the groundwork for a more nuanced understanding of Africa’s past, fostering a sense of pride and ownership among historians in the interpretation of their heritage. His legacy continues to inspire current and future scholars, promoting the idea that history should be understood through a lens that reflects the continent's diverse cultures and experiences.

As we prepare for "IFEADIGO 2025," scheduled to take place from July 22 to 27, 2025, at the International Conference Center in Awka, Anambra, the conference theme—“Technology Integration and Personalized Care: The Future of Community Pharmacy Practice”—echoes the spirit of innovation and forward-thinking that figures like Kenneth Dike embodied in their own fields. Anambra State, often celebrated as the “light of the nation,” represents a rich cultural and intellectual heritage. The term “IFEADIGO” translates to “light has come,” encapsulating the essence of hope and advancement that this conference seeks to foster.

As we continue to rally towards "IFEADIGO 2025," let us honor the remarkable legacy of Kenneth Dike and remain committed to fostering excellence in every endeavor. Join us as we come together to exchange knowledge, celebrate our heritage, and chart pathways for progress in community pharmacy and healthcare in Nigeria. Stay tuned for more inspiring stories as we approach this exciting event!
