According to report reaching CEOAFRICA’s news desk, the Dormaa West District of Ghana is currently experiencing an outbreak of Whooping Cough
At the Municipal Health Management Committee Meeting held in Dormaa-Ahenkro District, the Dormaa Central Municipal Director of Health, Ms Florence Iddrisah said they have been informed about the outbreak and work has began on checking the menace.
“A total of 83 children were interviewed under the guidance of their parents and guardians and the signs and symptoms common to all the respondents indicated an outbreak of Whooping Cough” Ms Iddrisah added.
Furthermore, she added that when the disease was clinically confirmed, 71 of those affected were treated, but 12 cases could not be traced due to change of location, as she commended the assembly man representing Dormaa, Mr. Oppong for his vigilance and urged other assembly men and women to emulate his kind gesture and sensitivity.
In a related development, the Dormaa Central Municipal Health Directorate has launched a newsletter on disease surveillance to provide data on diseases, events and situational report on public health to the people.
Titled “Municipal Watch”, the four-paged newsletter would also disseminate information on all surveillance activities to the appropriate quarters for prevention and control.
The newsletter would publish reports, analysis and interpretation of data on communicable diseases including HIV and AIDS, Buruli Ulcer, Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP), Influenza, Filariasis and Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), CEOAFRICA reports.
