
The 44th Annual National Scientific Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) officially commences today, July 22, 2025, at the Umuawulu Community Civic Centre and the International Convention Center (ICC) in Awka, Anambra State. This year's theme, "Technology Integration and Personalized Care: The Future of Community Pharmacy Practice," promises a robust program aimed at advancing the field of community pharmacy.
The day's activities will begin with the accreditation of delegates, welcoming community pharmacists from across Nigeria and beyond. Participants are expected to register in other to engage actively throughout the conference, making valuable connections and sharing knowledge.
In a significant move towards enhancing public health, the ACPN Anambra chapter will also conduct a destruction of expired pharmaceutical products, underlining the association's commitment to ensuring the safety and efficacy of medications within the community. This initiative serves as a vital reminder of the importance of proper disposal practices in safeguarding public health.
A highlight of the day will be the health outreach program, which includes the official launching of a new Pharmacare Centre in Umuawulu. This centre aims to provide essential pharmaceutical services and improve access to healthcare in underserved areas. This initiative reflects the ACPN’s ongoing mission to promote Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria.
Additionally, attendees can look forward to a Multi-Class Certified Training Session (MCPD), which will offer pharmacists valuable skills and knowledge to enhance their practice. Company presentations will also take place, providing insights into the latest products and services available in the pharmaceutical industry.
Another vital aspect of today's agenda includes vaccination training, which will equip pharmacists with essential skills for immunization practices, further expanding their role in public health initiatives. This training will be held at the ICC, where another critical session—the United Nations Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) on Substance Use Disorder—will also take place, fostering awareness and education on drug and substance use issues.
To promote public awareness, the day will conclude with a Pharmacists' Awareness Walk against Fake and Counterfeit Drugs, sponsored by Worldwide Healthcare (WWHC) and Purna Nigeria. This event aims to raise awareness about the dangers of counterfeit medications and the importance of integrity in the pharmaceutical profession.
