Pharm (Sir.) Bankole Aminu Ezebuilo, the National Chairman of the Association of Industrial Pharmacists of Nigeria (NAIP), has expressed profound grief over the passing of Pharm (Sir.) Ifeanyi Atueyi, who departed this world on July 15, 2025. Known for his unwavering dedication and trailblazing contributions to the pharmacy profession, Sir Atueyi was a revered pioneer and a founding father of NAIP.
“Sir Atueyi was not just a name in our records; he was a legacy in motion—a visionary leader and a rare gem whose life embodied unwavering passion, courage, and dedication to excellence,” Ezebuilo stated. “His contributions to the growth of our profession are immeasurable, and his absence leaves an irreplaceable void.”
Reflecting on Sir Atueyi's significant impact, Ezebuilo recalled a powerful moment during the inauguration of the NAIP House, where Sir Atueyi shared an inspiring historical account of NAIP’s journey since 1977. “Despite his many responsibilities at Pharmanews, he never wavered in his support for NAIP, gracing countless annual conferences and providing wise counsel that helped shape our direction,” he noted.
Sir Atueyi's legacy is further evidenced by his recognition as the 4th ICON Pharmacy Awardee in 2013, a testament to the indelible mark he left on the profession. Under his leadership, Pharmanews thrived for over four decades, redefining pharmaceutical journalism and advocacy.
Ezebuilo remarked, “He was more than a publisher; he was a chronicler of history and a voice for our profession. Pharmanews became a beacon of professionalism, ethics, and unity because of his belief in the power of communication.”
As a tireless advocate for the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and its technical arms, particularly NAIP, Sir Atueyi served as a mentor and elder statesman. “He was always generous with his wisdom, gracious in leadership, and constant in support,” Ezebuilo emphasized.
In closing, Ezebuilo pledged to honor Sir Atueyi's legacy by upholding the values he championed: integrity, professionalism, excellence, and unity. “Though he has departed, his legacy lives on in every pharmacist he mentored and in every institution he strengthened. We are committed to keeping his flame alive.”
On behalf of all industrial pharmacists across the nation, the NAIP National Secretariat extends its deepest condolences to Sir Atueyi's beloved family, the Pharmanews team, and the wider healthcare community. “Goodnight, Sir. You were—and will always remain—a true icon of pharmacy. May your gentle soul continue to rest in peace. Amen.”
