The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned that tougher disciplinary action awaits members who publicly declare support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The party described such endorsements as a clear breach of its constitution.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) said it had examined the “anti-party activities of certain members,” particularly those backing Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Expressing concern, the NWC noted the “persistent public media outbursts” by some prominent members, whose statements and actions including open support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) pose a serious threat to the unity and survival of the PDP.

The statement reads: “Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election in violation of the provision of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party.

“Specifically, Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution provides that ‘no member of the party shall align with other Parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government’.”

According to the PDP NWC, its members endorsing Tinubu is an act of disloyalty and has weakened the party internally, creating “division, disaffection and heavy hemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish our Party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked.”

Taking a firm stance, the NWC said it would activate disciplinary procedures in line with the PDP constitution on any of its members endorsing Tinubu.

“In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,” the statement read.

The PDP leadership further urged party members to remain committed as the party prepares for its upcoming national convention.

“The NWC charges all members of the Party to remain loyal, focused and continue to work assiduously towards the successful conduct of the PDP National Convention scheduled to hold on the 15th and 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital,” it added.

Governor Ademola Adeleke also declared that the Osun PDP had not only endorsed him for a second term in 2026 but had thrown its support behind Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition as well.

Although Adeleke reiterated his allegiance to the PDP, the dual endorsement stirred speculation about his political direction.

He was subsequently given a vote of confidence by the Osun PDP leadership, which promised to back any political path he chooses to take.
