Bodija Market, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
Traders at the Bodija market in Ibadan North Local Government area of Oyo State yesterday assured that they will pull their resources together to build a peaceful, harmonious, prosperous and united country.
The beans marketers, in a letter written by their counsel, Mr. Musa Ahmed, dated September 3, 2013, said they were not in any way in support of the recent killings of the traders who had travelled to Borno State to buy foodstuffs by suspected Boko Haram members.
While commending the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi for his prompt intervention in the crisis that recently rocked the market as well as the restoration of peace among the otherwise warring groups, the traders noted that Ajimobi’s intervention had helped to restore sanity to the market, with all traders now going about their normal businesses.
It would be recalled that Governor Ajimobi had, after the crisis, visited the market to parley with the traders on the need to allow peace to reign among members of all the ethnic groups trading in the market.
The governor also donated N30 million to the families of the traders who met
their untimely death while on a trip to Borno State to buy foodstuffs, even as he promised palliatives to the traders who lost their property to the crisis.Besides, he also announced the readiness of his government to repair the roads within the market and provide infrastructural facilities such as water, toilets and other conveniences.
The beans marketers said they would continue to look up to the governor for policies that would facilitate and enhance the
peaceful existence of all Nigerians. The beans marketers, however, condoled with the families that lost their dear ones to what they called unnecessary killings in Borno State.
