Dr. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu, the Provost of Federal Cooperative College (FCC), Eleyele, Ibadan, was among distinguished delegates at the 14th Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference (AMCCO) in Nairobi, where he contributed to discussions on leveraging partnerships for sustainable cooperative development across Africa.
The conference, held October 6-9, 2025 at the Safari Park Hotel, was convened by ICA-Africa in collaboration with Kenya’s Ministry of Cooperatives and MSME Development, under the theme: “From Commitment to Action: Leveraging Global, Regional, and Local Partnerships for Sustainable Cooperative Development in Africa.”
As Provost of FCC Ibadan; an institution responsible for training and developing cooperative leaders across Nigeria — Dr. Abdulganiyu was well placed to engage in policy conversations on institutional reform, capacity building, and digital transformation in the cooperative sector. He assumed the provostship earlier in 2025, and since then has unveiled ambitious plans to reposition the college.
During the sessions, Dr. Abdulganiyu joined panel discussions and bilateral exchanges focused on digitalization, regulatory reform, youth inclusion, and how cooperative colleges across Africa can adapt to the changing demands of agriculture and market linkages. His contributions often emphasized the need for cooperative training institutions to align their curricula with the emerging demands of agribusiness, technology, and value-chain integration.
“Our goal is to turn cooperative training institutions into engines of innovation — places where knowledge meets action and partnerships produce real change.”
At Nairobi, he also sought partnerships with fellow African cooperative education institutions, proposing collaboration in curriculum exchange, student mobility, and capacity building, especially for youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
His presence at the AMCCO adds intellectual weight to Nigeria’s voice in continental cooperative reform. As Nigeria rolls out its Renewed Hope Cooperative Reform and Revamp Programme (RH-CRRP), Dr. Abdulganiyu’s experience in cooperative education and his role as a bridge between policy and training institutions positions him to help implement such reforms at the institutional level.
“The sustainability of Africa’s cooperative movement depends on how well we educate, retrain, and empower the next generation of cooperative leaders.” he said.
Among other dignitaries in attendance were Senate Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture; Hon. Wycliffe A. Oparanya, Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs; Patrick Kilemi, Principal Secretary State Department for Cooperatives Ministry of MSMEs; H.E Sakaja Arthur Johnson, Governor, Nairobi City County; Zainab Hawa Bangura, Under-Secretary General; Dr. Ariel Enrique Guarco, President, ICA Global; and numerous ministerial and cooperative leaders from across Africa.
As the AMCCO conference pushes national and regional actors from commitment to action, Dr. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu’s participation underscores the role of education and institutional transformation in making continental cooperative reform sustainable.
