President of the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas (NAPPSA), Pharm. Adekunle Tometi, has called for deeper collaboration, stronger adoption of digital technologies, and a deliberate effort to build a future-ready pharmacy workforce in Nigeria.

He made the remarks during his goodwill message at the opening ceremony of the 98th Annual National Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Convocation Arena, Bayero University, Kano.

Speaking to the gathering of regulators, practitioners, academics, and industry leaders, Tometi emphasized that pharmacy practice is evolving rapidly across the world. According to him, “as a community pharmacist, I can say our profession continues to evolve daily around the world. Grasping the growth, we are also leading in clinical health.”

He noted that the rise of digital technology presents significant opportunities for Nigerian pharmacists to innovate and increase their impact within the healthcare system. “Digital technology is now in all areas, and this is an opportunity for us as pharmacists to build a future-ready workforce,” he said.

Tometi stressed the importance of empowering the next generation of pharmacy professionals with the skills, tools, and mindset needed to compete globally. He urged sector leaders to leverage technology to boost efficiency, improve service delivery, and strengthen healthcare outcomes.

Highlighting the central place of teamwork in modern healthcare, he underscored the need for stronger professional synergy. “Collaboration is very important. There should be collaboration between pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. So collaboration is key,” he added.

Tometi also reaffirmed NAPPSA’s commitment to supporting the pharmaceutical sector in Nigeria, noting that the organization stands ready to partner with PSN on capacity-building and technical advancement. “The way forward is that, as members of NAPPSA, we are ready to support the PSN in any way necessary — to bring our expertise and our people to help as we go forward,” he assured.

The PSN Annual Conference in Kano convened practitioners, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to discuss reforms, innovations, and strategic pathways for strengthening Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector.
