From Zimbabwe, it has been reported that not less than 41 elephants were poisoned to death by poachers at the Hwange National Park.

According to CEOAFRICA.com findings, Mrs Caroline Washaya Moyo, the Zimbabwean Parks spokesperson, said suspected cyanide was used to poison salt pans but tests are still being carried out. This, according to her, was Zimbabwe’s worst case of elephant poaching.

Five of the suspected poachers, according to sources, have been arrested and Mrs Moyo warned that people living near the parks should not eat the meat of any dead animals they find because touching the poisoned carcasses posed a serious danger to any animal or human.

Poaching of animals like rhinos, elephants etc have been on the rise in some parts of Africa due to the increase in demands of their horns and tusks in parts of Asia mainly for religious purposes.
