The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has described as untrue media reports that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, is leading in opinion polls in the state.
The party said the report entitled, ‘Peterside Leads Wike in Rivers Gubernatorial Polls’ was authored by a known member of the APC, Mr. Andy Briggs, describing the report as not only dishonest but the product of “a demented brain and a deceased imagination.”
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday by the Chairman of Media and Publicity Committee of the PDP Campaign Organisation in the state, Mr. Emma Okah, the PDP wondered if opinion poll was based on the wishes of one person who was a judge in his own case and basing his subjective assessment on the alleged attendance in a campaign rally.
Okah said Briggs was a card-carrying member of the APC who was seeking cheap attention.
“He has used every available opportunity to blackmail the Rivers State PDP gubernatorial candidate, Chief Nyesom Wike, by applying different tactics to get involved in Wike’s governorship project and each time he met a brick wall, Briggs would resort to falsehood,” Okah said.
He therefore urged the people of the state to ignore the alleged opinion poll, adding, “It is therefore ridiculous that one person will elevate his personal opinion to that of a cross section of his APC members on an exercise which requires a high degree of interaction with different segments of the society, honesty and empirical facts before a conclusion can be arrived at.”
Okah said the PDP was ready for the elections and called on the APC to jettison irrelevant matters and prepare for the elections.
“In our view, opinion polls do not vote on election days and if APC is strong in Rivers State to win the forthcoming elections, then the present desperation by Briggs and the APC can only evoke sympathy.
“We therefore advise Briggs and the APC in Rivers State to prepare to face the PDP at the polls in 10 days time instead of beating about the bush on irrelevant matters which only expose how childish, vulnerable and panicky Briggs and the APC have become in Rivers State,” Okah said.
