The House of Representatives has approved another extension of the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget, moving the deadline from September 30 to December 31, 2026.

The extension was approved on Tuesday during plenary after the House Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, moved a motion seeking the adjustment.

Ihonvbere said the implementation of the capital component had been slowed by prevailing economic challenges, making it necessary to extend the deadline.

The House subsequently accelerated consideration of the bill and passed it through first, second and third readings on the same day.

The latest extension is the fourth adjustment to the deadline for implementing the 2025 capital budget by the National Assembly.

On December 23, 2025, lawmakers extended the deadline by three months to March 31, 2026, following the repeal and re-enactment of the 2024 and 2025 Appropriation Acts.

On March 31, the Senate and House extended the deadline again, moving it to June 30.

The National Assembly later approved another extension on June 15, shifting the deadline from June 30 to September 30.

While seeking the previous extension, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele said the execution of capital projects under the 2025 Appropriation Act had not reached an optimal level.
