NIGERIA President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Engineer Adesayo Olusegun Michael as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), where he will also serve as the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation (CEIF).
The appointment is part of a broader move by the administration to strengthen leadership across key technical and regulatory agencies in the power and science sectors.
Engr. Michael brings decades of experience in Nigeria’s electricity management and metering systems to the role. A pioneer staff member of the former Electricity Management Services (EMS) in the pre-privatisation era, he played a key role in the agency’s transition into what is now NEMSA.
He previously headed the NEMSA Oshodi Meter Tests Station (MTS) and, until his appointment, served as a top management official and Head of the Metering Department at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
Industry stakeholders describe him as deeply versed in the Nigerian Metering Code and other sector-wide regulatory frameworks, with extensive technical expertise in metering systems, inspection, and compliance.
His appointment is expected to bolster regulatory oversight, safety enforcement, and service delivery within Nigeria’s electricity sector.
In addition to naming the new NEMSA chief, President Tinubu also approved the appointment of members of the agency’s board.
They include Engr. Aliyu Abdulazeez as Executive Director (Technical), Ikechi Clara Nwosu as Chairman representing the South East, Zubair Abdur’rauf Idris, Igba Elizabeth representing the North Central, Sani Alhaji Shehu representing the North East, Adeyemi Adetunji representing the South West, Engr. Emmanuel Eneji Nkpe representing the South South, and Engr. Charles Ogbonna Asogwa representing the South East.
