Reality star and rapper Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba, popularly known as Laycon, has opened up about his personal journey to self-discovery, revealing that he temporarily lost his “inner voice” after winning the Big Brother Naija reality show in 2020.

The ‘Fierce’ crooner disclosed this in a recent video broadcast titled Life With Laycon, where he reflected on the challenges that followed his sudden rise to fame and the role silence played in helping him reconnect with himself.

According to the rapper, the overwhelming attention and life changes that came after his victory made it difficult for him to hear his own thoughts.

“Has the world ever gone silent on you and all you have left were your own thoughts?” he asked in the video.

“I have been there and I want to share a part of that experience with you. After I won Big Brother Naija in 2020, I lost my inner voice, and the first time I heard that voice again was in December 2021 after my sold-out concert, The Icons Fest,” he said.

Laycon explained that when his inner voice returned, it confronted him with several reflective questions about his life and happiness.

“The voice kept asking me questions like, ‘Is this really how you want to live? Are you enjoying yourself? What’s next after this? Are you happy?’ These were questions that made me want to sit alone with my thoughts,” he added.

He noted that spending time in solitude allowed him to confront difficult but necessary truths about himself, which ultimately contributed to his personal growth.

The rapper also observed that many people struggle with growth because they are afraid to embrace silence and loneliness.

According to him, silence, although sometimes uncomfortable, is essential for self-reflection and personal development.

“Silence is a mirror. It projects your life onto your thoughts and gives you the opportunity to make necessary changes,” he said.

Laycon encouraged his fans to occasionally embrace solitude and self-reflection as a way of holding themselves accountable and gaining clarity about their lives.
