The Federal Government has approved ₦2 billion each as take-off grants for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja, and the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, bringing the total funding to ₦4 billion to support the institutions’ commencement of operations.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the approval on Thursday during the inauguration of principal officers appointed to lead the two newly established institutions, according to Arise News.
Those inaugurated include Prof. Nosiru Onibon, pioneer Rector of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja; Prof. Adeola Oshikoya, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe; and Dr. Angela Ajala, who was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
Presenting the letters of appointment in Abuja, Alausa said the creation of the institutions aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda to expand access to higher education and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity in science, technology, and innovation.
He stated that the appointees were selected based on their track records in the education sector, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them through effective leadership and institutional development.
“The institutions are strategically located to harness the economic potential and human resources available in their respective regions,” the minister said, adding that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to building a robust education system capable of producing skilled manpower for national development.
According to him, the ₦2 billion take-off grants for each institution are intended to facilitate the establishment of essential administrative and academic structures as they begin operations.
Alausa further encouraged the newly appointed leaders to prioritize innovation-driven programmes, particularly in areas such as technological development, renewable energy, climate change mitigation, and disaster risk management, in line with national priorities.
He also congratulated Dr. Ajala on her appointment as NCCE Executive Secretary, emphasizing the importance of teacher education in strengthening Nigeria’s overall education system.
