The remains of veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have arrived in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his burial.

The arrival of the late actor’s remains was met with grief as family members, colleagues, friends and residents gathered to pay their final respects to the celebrated thespian.

A video shared by an X user, @DammieDammie, showed mourners receiving the remains in Ilaro as preparations for the final rites got underway.

Also in the town was popular actress Ireti Osayemi, who arrived to honour the late actor and pay her last respects. A video shared by Emiralty Africa on Instagram on Monday captured Osayemi’s arrival in Ilaro for the burial ceremony.

Ogogo’s death has continued to generate widespread mourning across the Yoruba film industry, where he was regarded as one of its most recognisable and influential figures.

Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, following a battle with stage-four cancer.

His death came shortly after his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, made emotional appeals for urgent medical assistance, disclosing the severity of their father’s condition.

The family had reportedly sought further medical intervention and specialists to review his case after doctors informed them that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his deteriorating condition.

Multiple sources, including Best of Nollywood founder, Seun Oloketuyi, confirmed the actor’s death, while veteran actor Jide Kosoko subsequently announced details of the burial arrangements.

According to the arrangements, Hassan’s remains were to be taken to Ilaro for a laying-in-state ceremony at the Pavilion on Monday before his burial.

The Ogun State Government had also mourned the actor, describing him as a shining light whose exceptional talent and dedication contributed significantly to the promotion of Nigerian culture and the projection of Yoruba heritage to audiences around the world.

An indigene of Ilaro, Hassan enjoyed a career spanning several decades and became one of the most prominent figures in the Yoruba film industry. His memorable performances across film and television earned him a lasting place in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

As his remains return to his hometown for burial, tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, admirers and fans who have continued to celebrate his enduring legacy.
