A governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Ololade Usman Bakare
A governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Ololade Usman Bakare, has formally unveiled a new governance vision anchored on ethics, inclusivity, and service, declaring that leadership must be treated as a sacred trust rather than an avenue for power.
Bakare made this known on Sunday, March 22, 2026, while hosting the Post-Ramadan Lecture of the Ololade Usman Bakare Foundation at the Liberty Stadium, where he launched the “ÌGBÈGÀ OYỌ” initiative—a socio-political movement designed to drive inclusive development across education, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
Addressing a distinguished gathering of royal fathers, Islamic scholars, and community leaders, the Ibadan-born digital transformation expert emphasized that the discipline and values cultivated during Ramadan should serve as a model for public leadership. Drawing from Islamic history, he referenced the principles of the Abu Bakr As-Siddiq to underscore his commitment to justice and protection of the vulnerable.
“A society may endure disbelief, but it cannot survive injustice,” Bakare stated, stressing that governance must prioritize fairness, accountability, and service to humanity.
He further highlighted the role of Islamic teachings in promoting integrity in public administration, urging leaders to manage public resources with transparency and equity.
Guest speakers at the event, including Abideen Olaiya, Mudathir Atanda Bada, and Abdulganiyy Abubakr Agbotomokekere, commended Bakare’s vision and encouraged him to remain steadfast. They emphasized that Islam supports governance that delivers tangible development, while also urging adherence to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The clerics also called for sustained commitment to peace, unity, and service to humanity in the aftermath of the recent Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
In an exclusive interview with CEOAFRICA, Bakare cited Bola Ahmed Tinubu as his political mentor, while expressing deep respect for the Olubadan of , Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty , Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja and Florence Ajimobi, whose leadership styles he described as inspirational benchmarks for public service.
Backed by years of experience in cybersecurity and digital governance, Bakare said his aspiration is driven by a desire to deploy technology-driven solutions to address youth unemployment, strengthen infrastructure, and enhance public sector efficiency.
The newly launched “ÌGBÈGÀ OYỌ” initiative—translated as “Upliftment and Progress”—is structured to deliver humanitarian support to vulnerable populations while equipping young people with digital and entrepreneurial skills. According to him, the initiative builds on over a decade of intervention programmes by his foundation, including scholarships, educational support, and community empowerment projects across Oyo State.
Expanding his message beyond state politics, Bakare called for national unity, urging Nigerians across religious and ethnic lines to embrace peaceful coexistence as a pathway to sustainable development. He stressed that good governance must foster inclusivity while projecting the universal values of justice and compassion.
The high-profile event was attended by prominent dignitaries, and other notable speakers such as Abdulhakeem Abdullateef and AbdurRahman Ahmad, who echoed calls for a return to the principles of justice (Adl) and consultation (Shura) in governance.
Bakare concluded with a call to action, urging residents of Oyo State to move beyond passive observation and actively contribute to societal transformation.
With its blend of spiritual reflection and policy direction, the launch of “ÌGBÈGÀ OYỌ” signals a significant step in Bakare’s bid to position ethical leadership, innovation, and inclusive growth at the heart of governance in Oyo State.
