In a significant political development, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has publicly explained the reasons behind his sudden resignation, describing the decision as a deliberate move to safeguard governance and stability in the state.

Gwarzo broke his silence just hours after the Kwankwasiyya Movement confirmed his exit from office on Friday, bringing clarity to what had sparked widespread speculation across political circles.

In a resignation letter addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and obtained by CEOAFRICA, the former deputy governor said his decision followed “careful consultations and deep reflection,” underscoring his commitment to the peace and collective interest of Kano State.

“I hereby tender my voluntary resignation from office, with effect from 27th March 2026,” Gwarzo stated, citing provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) to affirm the legality of his action.

He stressed that prevailing political circumstances had made it increasingly difficult to function effectively, noting that stepping aside was necessary to prevent governance disruptions.

“In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the State to move forward without undue distractions,” he explained.

Addressing swirling allegations linked to his exit, Gwarzo firmly rejected any insinuation of wrongdoing, insisting that his resignation should not be misinterpreted.

“This resignation is made voluntarily and in good faith. It should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing,” he said, maintaining that his public service record remains intact.

The former deputy governor framed his decision as a sacrifice rooted in democratic ideals and institutional respect, emphasizing that the stability of governance must take precedence over personal ambition.

He also extended gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, members of the State Executive Council, the Kano State House of Assembly, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party for their support throughout his tenure.

“I remain deeply grateful to the good people of Kano State for the honour and privilege of serving,” he said, assuring that he remains committed to contributing to the state’s progress in other capacities.

The development marks a pivotal moment in Kano’s political landscape, with analysts closely watching its potential implications for governance and party dynamics in the state.
