The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) is set to convene a high-level national discourse today, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, bringing together leading voices in community pharmacy practice to examine the evolving balance between professional ethics and business sustainability.
The Monthly Capacity Building Webinar, themed “The PCN Code of Ethics and the Community Pharmacist: Balancing Professional Duty and Business Pressures,” will hold from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. The session is designed as a timely intervention for practitioners grappling with the dual demands of strict regulatory compliance and the economic realities of running sustainable pharmacy enterprises.
Ahead of the webinar, ACPN National Chairman, Ambrose Ezeh, urged pharmacists nationwide to uphold ethical standards as a core professional obligation, emphasizing that safeguarding patient lives must remain paramount. He encouraged consistent participation in professional development initiatives, noting that while business sustainability is essential, clinical integrity and adherence to ethical principles are non-negotiable.
Providing technical insights into the legal and ethical framework, Aminu Yinka, Chairman of the ACPN Law & Ethics Committee, will lead discussions on the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Code of Ethics. He is expected to underscore that pharmacists must not operate under conditions that compromise professional judgment or patient care standards.
Reinforcing this perspective, Victor Fakulujo, Chairman of the ACPN Regulatory and Practice Committee and former Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Lagos State, highlighted the expanding role of pharmacists beyond dispensing medications. According to him, pharmacists remain legally accountable for safe and accurate drug dispensing while also playing a critical role in patient education, monitoring, and overall healthcare delivery.
Also contributing to the discourse, Anthony Oyawole, a former PSN Lagos Chairman and respected figure in Pharmaceutical Inspection Committee (PIC) activities, emphasized the need for a broader competency framework. He noted that beyond technical expertise, pharmacists must develop critical thinking, leadership, innovation, and strong inter-professional collaboration skills to remain relevant in today’s healthcare landscape.
In a statement, ACPN National Publicity Secretary, Chukwudi M. Ezenwanne, described the webinar as a strategic platform for career advancement. He revealed that the Community Pharmacist Assessment and Career Progression Institute (CPACPI) has integrated the session into its qualification framework, making participation essential for pharmacists seeking to earn professional points and enhance their career progression.
The webinar will also feature Josephine Ehimen, MD/CEO of Nett Pharmacy and Chairman of ACPN’s Empowerment & Capacity Building Committee. Together with other speakers, she will provide practical guidance on aligning ethical obligations with business realities while maintaining a patient-first approach.
This initiative underscores ACPN’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of community pharmacists and ensuring that Nigeria’s primary healthcare delivery system is anchored on professionalism, ethical compliance, and continuous development.
