The Federal Government has urged media organisations and public institutions to ensure the accurate use of President Bola Tinubu’s official title in all publications and formal communications.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, expressed concern over what he described as the recurring misrepresentation of the President’s official appellation by some media outlets and organisations.
Akume stated that the correct designation of the President is: *“His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”*
According to the SGF, the clarification became necessary following an error identified in a publication by a national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
He stressed that such inaccuracies are avoidable and called on journalists, editors, and public institutions to verify official titles before publication in order to prevent what he termed “avoidable and embarrassing errors.”
The SGF further advised organisations seeking confirmation of official titles and designations to consult the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation through its verified communication channels and official email platforms.
The office listed its verified social media handles as Facebook: @OfficeoftheSGF, Instagram: OfficialOSGFNG, and X (formerly Twitter): OfficialOSGF. Enquiries may also be directed to [info@osgf.gov.ng](mailto:info@osgf.gov.ng).
