Police operatives have arrested the father of Adeyemi Adeniyi, the embattled self-styled Director-General of the purported Presidential Fiscal and Infrastructure Projects Council (PFIPC), in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, disclosed the development during a telephone conversation with journalists on Monday, condemning the arrest and questioning its legality.

According to Falana, security operatives stormed the Adeniyi family residence located at Plot 3, Adeniyi Dynasty, behind Technical College, Road Safety Area, Ogbomoso, and took Adeyemi’s father into custody alongside a family friend who was visiting the home.

“The police have now stormed the house of the parents of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi. The father has been arrested. There is no legal basis for substituted arrests. The young man has promised to appear in court, so why arrest his father?” Falana said.

Residents of the area also confirmed the incident. One eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the officers arrived in four vehicles before taking the elderly man away.

“They came with four vehicles and started harassing the family before eventually taking the father away. They did not allow neighbours to intervene. At the moment, there is a man in blue clothes patrolling the area,” the resident said.

Another resident claimed that Adeyemi’s father was arrested together with a visitor, while his mother was left traumatised by the incident.

“Baba was taken away with someone who came to visit them this morning. They left the mother, who is currently in shock, but we have moved her away for her safety,” the source said.

The arrest comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the purported PFIPC, which the Presidency has publicly described as a non-existent agency.

Adeyemi is currently facing charges of alleged forgery, impersonation and related offences in connection with his purported appointment as Director-General of the council. The matter is presently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Falana has consistently maintained that the allegations against Adeyemi should be addressed through due process, insisting that only a competent court of law has the constitutional authority to determine criminal liability.
