The family of the late Miss Mary Habila, the nurse who reportedly died at the residence of the Minister of Works, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), calling for the immediate release of her remains for burial.
Mary’s father, Tanko Habila, accompanied by his wife, other family members and their legal team, submitted the petition at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday before addressing journalists.
Speaking after the family’s lawyer, Habila lamented that nearly two weeks after his daughter’s death, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to release her body to the family.
He said the family was not requesting an autopsy, stressing that their only wish was to give their daughter a dignified burial.
“As we are standing here, somebody can fall and die. It has happened. All we want is her body to be buried,” Habila said.
The family appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to urgently intervene and direct the release of Mary Habila’s remains, describing the continued withholding of her body as deeply distressing.
