The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has ordered an investigation into a viral video showing Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel manually searching a female passenger’s luggage and confiscating tins of milk and sardines at Osubi Airport, officially known as Alfred Diete-Spiff Airport, in Delta State.

The incident, which has generated widespread reactions on social media, occurred during routine security screening when an AVSEC officer questioned the passenger over canned milk and other tinned food items in her luggage.

The situation reportedly escalated into a heated verbal exchange after airport officials confiscated the items, claiming they could spill inside the passenger’s bag during the flight.

The passenger challenged the action, questioning why security officers opted for a manual search instead of using the airport’s baggage scanning machine. She also protested the inspection being carried out in full view of other passengers.

Reacting to the incident, FAAN's Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, confirmed in a statement that the authority had commenced a fact-finding investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

Agbebire disclosed that FAAN’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, had directed an immediate probe into the matter.

According to the statement, the investigation will determine whether the conduct of the aviation security personnel complied with FAAN’s operational procedures, customer service standards, and code of conduct.

FAAN assured the public that any officer found to have breached established regulations would face appropriate administrative and disciplinary measures in line with civil service rules and the agency’s internal procedures.
