The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commended Dunamis International Gospel Centre for constructing a pedestrian bridge along the busy Airport Road in Abuja, describing the initiative as an exemplary demonstration of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Wike gave the commendation on Friday during the inauguration of the pedestrian bridge constructed near the church's headquarters, the 100,000-capacity Glory Dome in Abuja.
The minister disclosed that although the church applied for approval to construct the facility in 2018, the application was only brought to his attention in February 2026, after which it received approval within one month.
He said the swift approval demonstrated President Bola Tinubu's commitment to good governance, urging members of the church and other stakeholders to support government efforts through initiatives that address the needs of the people.
According to him, government cannot shoulder the responsibility of providing every public infrastructure alone, stressing the importance of collective participation in national development.
"Government cannot do everything alone; there is nowhere in the world where government carries every burden. That is why we emphasise comprehensive social responsibility," he said.
To encourage more private sector and community-driven infrastructure projects, Wike announced that the FCT Administration would reimburse the church 50 per cent of the total cost incurred in constructing the pedestrian bridge.
He also praised the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr Paul Enenche, and his wife, Dr Becky Enenche, for demonstrating leadership and deploying church resources towards saving lives and improving public welfare.
The minister, however, expressed concern over the refusal of some pedestrians to use designated footbridges, noting that many continue to risk their lives by crossing busy expressways.
He cautioned residents against criticising government enforcement measures on social media when such actions were intended to maintain public order and protect lives.
Earlier, Enenche explained that the church embarked on the project out of concern over the frequent fatal accidents recorded along the Airport Road corridor.
He disclosed that the church planned to further improve the facility with modern aesthetic coverings, security lighting and transparent side panels to shield users from harsh weather conditions and encourage greater compliance.
The cleric urged public-spirited individuals and leaders to prioritise initiatives that create meaningful societal impact, stressing that resources should be deployed for the collective benefit of humanity while keeping eternity in view.
Also speaking at the inauguration, the Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, commended the church for translating its faith into practical acts of compassion and community development.
Kingibe described the ministry as "a beacon of light" and called on residents and leaders across the territory to work together towards building a safer, more peaceful and secure capital city.
