A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to seek re-election in 2027 based on the achievements of his administration rather than political rhetoric, insisting that Nigerians will decide his fate at the polls by evaluating his performance in office.

Speaking on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily on Monday, the publisher of Ovation Magazine said President Tinubu has no reason to fear the 2027 presidential election if he can convincingly demonstrate that his government has improved the lives of Nigerians.

According to Momodu, the president is not personally disliked by Nigerians, but voters expect tangible results and would judge his administration on its record.

"The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don't like him. It is about performance. Present your scorecards. So the people running around spreading hellfire should calm down and channel that energy into showcasing the performance of the APC," Momodu said.

He maintained that the outcome of the next presidential election would largely depend on how Nigerians assess the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Momodu also faulted the APC for continually blaming previous administrations for Nigeria's economic and governance challenges despite having governed the country since 2015.

He argued that if the Tinubu administration truly inherited a weak economy, it should now be judged by the reforms and improvements it has made rather than by excuses.

"What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC," he said.

Questioning the administration's impact, Momodu added:

"Now, let's assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the direction of his predecessor and change the lives of the people?"

The ADC stalwart also commented on the recent exchange between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Responding to Obasanjo's assertion that appointing Atiku as his vice president was the greatest political mistake of his career, Momodu alleged that the former president has consistently opposed Atiku's presidential ambition.

His remarks come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum, with President Tinubu widely expected to seek a second term. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, are among the leading opposition figures positioning themselves for the race.
