President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward pledge to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The National Sports Commission disclosed that the players have started receiving payments estimated at ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the financial reward promised by the President after the team clinched its 10th continental title.
The Super Falcons secured the historic victory in July 2025 after overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco in a thrilling final, staging an impressive comeback to reclaim their position as African champions.
The triumph further extended Nigeria’s record as the most successful country in the history of the women’s continental football championship.
Reacting to the development, team captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked President Tinubu for honouring his commitment, describing the payment as a meaningful recognition of the players’ efforts and contribution to the country.
Tinubu’s fulfilment of the pledge is part of his administration’s financial recognition of Nigerian athletes who have distinguished themselves in international sporting competitions.
The President had earlier fulfilled a similar $100,000 reward promise to D’Tigress following their victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where the Nigerian women’s basketball team secured an unprecedented fifth consecutive continental title.
The National Sports Commission praised the President for his continued support for Nigerian sports, stressing that rewarding outstanding performances serves as an important motivation for athletes to pursue greater achievements.
The Commission noted that the gesture would reinforce confidence among athletes and sports administrators while promoting accountability, motivation and national pride.
It added that recognising sporting excellence through tangible rewards would encourage more Nigerian athletes to excel at international competitions and continue to bring honour to the country.
