Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed confidence in the victory of his uncle, Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, in Saturday’s governorship election.

Davido, who has openly supported the governor’s re-election bid, made the remarks in a series of social media posts as votes were being sorted and counted across the state.

The singer also claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost the polling ward of former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande.

“Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward. Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC. Osun no be Edo!” he wrote.

Davido also urged Osun residents to remain vigilant, alleging that there were plans by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola to influence the process.

“I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee,” he added.

In another post, the singer expressed confidence that Adeleke would emerge victorious and called on security agencies to remain deployed at polling units.

“We are winning, guys! Security agencies shouldn’t be withdrawn from electoral units,” Davido wrote.

Meanwhile, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have commenced the sorting and counting of votes at polling units across Osun State following the conclusion of voting.

As of 5:51 p.m. on Saturday, results from 1,695 of the 3,763 polling units had been uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal, according to a check by our correspondent.

The three major candidates had earlier expressed confidence in victory as the election moved into the sorting and collation stage.

Adeleke, who voted at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area, expressed optimism about his chances of retaining the seat.

The APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who voted at Ward 09, Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area, also expressed confidence in victory.

Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, raised concerns over the alleged non-recognition of his party agents in several parts of the state.

INEC had yet to officially declare a winner as of the time of filing this report.
