Dolly Parton, country music icon, dies at 80

American country music icon, singer, songwriter and actress Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.

Parton’s death was confirmed on Tuesday by her nephew and longtime security chief, Bryan Seever, in a video shared on her official social media accounts.

The legendary singer was one of the most influential figures in American country music, enjoying a career that spanned several decades and earned her a place among the world’s most celebrated entertainers.

Parton was renowned for a string of global hits, including Jolene, 9 to 5, Coat of Many Colors and I Will Always Love You, which later became an international sensation following Whitney Houston’s rendition.

Beyond music, Parton made significant contributions to film, business and philanthropy, further cementing her status as a cultural icon.

According to Seever, Parton had previously expressed her wish that the phrase “I Will Always Love You” be used as her final farewell.

Her death marks the end of an extraordinary career that profoundly influenced country music and popular culture around the world.
