The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has commenced proceedings on petitions challenging the outcome of the August 15 governorship election, with separate cases filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The two petitions challenging the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke were displayed on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, September 7.

The development followed confirmation by the Secretary of the Tribunal, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the election outcome had been filed.

Belemore had earlier announced that the required notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.

At the opening of the tribunal, Belemore and other secretariat officials were present as preparations got underway for the commencement of proceedings.

Both the APC and PDP are challenging the result that returned Adeleke for another term in office.

The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.

The petitions now place Adeleke’s re-election before the tribunal, setting the stage for a legal contest over the conduct and outcome of the August 15 poll.
