Olalekan Oyeyemi, a known ally of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been shot dead in Ile-Ife, Osun State, amid a reported clash between rival factions over control of motor parks.

Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, was reportedly killed on Sunday around the Energy filling station in Ile-Ife.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying its operatives were deployed to the area after receiving information about a shooting.

According to the police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, preliminary investigation showed that Oyeyemi was shot, while the command had commenced efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

“The attention of the police was called to an accident which occurred around Energy filling station, Ile-Ife, following which operatives were promptly deployed to the area to restore normalcy, secure the scene and commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement said.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Olalekan Oyeyemi aka Emir was shot. The command is currently working to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible, and bring all persons found culpable to justice.”

Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, also confirmed the killing, saying the governor had ordered the immediate arrest of everyone found to be involved.

Rasheed said Adeleke further directed rival groups to vacate the motor parks and ordered the immediate establishment of a Park Management System.

The governor also directed security agencies to restore peace and maintain law and order across the state, while urging residents to remain calm.

The killing comes months after Adeleke ordered the suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun following violence at motor parks.

Oyeyemi had previously faced criminal proceedings. In November 2024, he was remanded at the Ile-Ife Correctional Centre in Osogbo over allegations of murder following an 11-count charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force.

He later denied involvement in the alleged killing of an NURTW official, Oyebamiji Kazeem, in January 2026.
