President Bola Tinubu has mocked former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, over the persistent erosion menace in Anambra State, questioning his ability to lead Nigeria.

Tinubu made the remarks on Friday while addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a campaign rally in Akwa Ibom State.

Though he did not mention Obi directly, the President accused the former governor of failing to tackle erosion during his time in office, contrasting his performance with what he described as his own success in confronting the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos State.

“There is one who said he is in one party they call NDC, who is running for president. He ran away from erosion in Anambra State. And he said he wants to be a president. Which president?

“He could not confront erosion. I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I confronted the Atlantic Ocean, I tamed it for you. Governor Umo Eno confronted the erosion in Akwa Ibom and he is working for you, he is stable,” Tinubu said.

The President also launched an attack on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), questioning his political loyalty and capacity to provide effective leadership.

Tinubu criticised Atiku's departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arguing that his decision to align with another political platform following disagreements within the party demonstrated a lack of leadership character.

“They lack the leadership and character. If a man that once upon a time was a baby of the PDP, became a father of the PDP and, because of a little inconvenience, he ran away from that party and formed a dangerous ADC in another party. Is that a leadership trait? Is that a leadership character? And he wants you to vote for him. It is not for banana. He cannot put a house in order,” the President stated.

Tinubu further dismissed opposition parties as lacking the political experience, credibility and calibre of individuals within the ruling APC.

“We are not like other mushroom parties. They don’t have the kind of character and the calibre of people that we have,” he said.

The President pointed to former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and other party leaders as examples of individuals who, according to him, had contributed to building a united and formidable political structure.

He described the APC leadership as dependable, reliable and honest, urging party supporters to maintain confidence in the ruling party.
