The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has commenced the distribution of non-sensitive election materials to some states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at a national stakeholders’ meeting convened to mark 100 days to the 2027 general election.
Amupitan said offshore production and fleet contracts had been awarded, while production of 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices was at an advanced stage.
He added that the delivery of new operational vehicles was ongoing nationwide, alongside civil works, the construction of dedicated BVAS storage facilities and Local Government Area offices, as well as renovations of INEC offices across the country.
“Some states have started receiving some non-sensitive materials ahead of the election. Procurement for the printing of ballot papers and results sheets is nearly completed, with progress towards final contract awards,” he said.
The INEC chairman also disclosed that the contract for solar power installations across the commission’s offices had been awarded, while upgrades to critical information and communications technology applications and core infrastructure had been implemented.
He said the commission’s procurement department was closely monitoring suppliers, contractors and interdepartmental delivery schedules to ensure that all procurement activities were completed in line with statutory timelines.
