President Bola Tinubu is expected to present the 2027 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly before the end of 2026, the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, has disclosed.
Uzoka-Anite made this known on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Tinubu at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja.
The minister also announced the council’s approval of the National Development Plan 2026–2030 and new policy frameworks aimed at tackling child stunting, improving nutrition and strengthening food security across the country.
She spoke against the backdrop of the successful conclusion of the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit, held in Abuja from October 26 to 28, noting that the government was pursuing policies to support sustainable economic development.
According to her, the FEC approved the Revised National Policy on Food and Nutrition 2026 to replace existing frameworks and introduce sustainable financing mechanisms for nutrition programmes.
She said the policy would also strengthen collaboration among ministries responsible for agriculture, livestock, health and education, alongside development partners, to improve nutrition outcomes and address child stunting.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has clarified that the $21.7 billion borrowing proposal submitted to the National Assembly by President Tinubu is designed to finance investments in assets rather than recurrent expenditure.
Oyedele explained that the proposal covers a multi-year investment programme spanning approximately five years and does not imply that the entire amount would be borrowed or disbursed immediately.
He disclosed that $10.6 billion had been earmarked for major transport infrastructure projects, including the Sokoto–Badagry Highway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and Kano–Kaduna Metro Rail.
The minister added that more than $7.9 billion of the proposed financing would be sourced from multilateral and bilateral development partners, including $5 billion from the World Bank, at an average interest rate of approximately 2.1 per cent.
He further stated that $3.3 billion had been allocated to projects for state governments, while another $1.45 billion was earmarked for the Federal Capital Territory.
The proposed financing is expected to support infrastructure development and other investment priorities as the Federal Government prepares its fiscal agenda for 2027.
The anticipated presentation of the 2027 budget will set the stage for legislative scrutiny of the administration’s spending priorities, revenue projections and plans for economic growth in the coming year.
