The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to reconsider his 2027 presidential ambition following his son’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Agada made the remark in reaction to Abba Abubakar’s declaration of support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Abba, who is the founder and chairman of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), a political mobilisation and support platform, recently unveiled plans to mobilise support for Tinubu across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
He also announced plans to organise a two-million-man march across the country in support of the President’s re-election bid.
Abba had earlier defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the development, Agada described the situation as an embarrassing political development for Atiku, who is seeking to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a post on X, the NDC chieftain wrote: “A very bad optics. AA should give up his ambition at this point.”
Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has remained a vocal critic of the Tinubu administration, particularly over its economic policies.
The former vice president has repeatedly accused the President of worsening economic hardship and hunger in the country, setting the stage for another political contest ahead of the 2027 general election.
