Clashes which erupted between former rebel group and forces loyal to the ousted president Francois Bozize, has left no fewer than 60 people dead,CEOAFRICA.com gathered.

Speaking about the incident, Guy-Simplice Kodegue, CAR government spokesperson said fighters loyal to Francois Bozize had seized the town of Bouca north of the capital.

He also said bridges had been destroyed and villages attacked near the town of Bossangoa, 250 km (155 miles) north-west of the capital Bangui. He then accused pro-Bozize fighters of attacking members of the Muslim population. Five Seleka rebel fighters were also killed in the clash.

Mr Bozize, who is currently in France, was ousted from office by Michael Djotondia-led Seleka rebel in March. Initially, he fled to Cameroon when the rebel seized Bangui.

This is the first large-scale operation launched by the former president's forces since he was toppled in March.
