The ongoing PDP crises took a new twist when some of the party’s "big fishes" in Kaduna State switched allegiance from the Bamanga Tukur tent to the “New PDP” led by Abubakar Baraje.
CEOAFRICA.com gathered that Yaro-Makanma, the former Kaduna state chairman of PDP between 2001 and 2007 led other top guns that dumped the Tukur camp.
A statement signed by Yaro-Makanma and a former member of the State House of Assembly (1999-2007), Mr. Gideon Morik, in Kaduna on Monday, said the decision to join the New PDP was to save the party from destruction.
It noted that the decision of the former Vice -President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and seven governors elected on the platform of the party, was not only worthy of commendation, but should be emulated.
Our source also disclosed that the statement credited to these Kaduna politicians added that since the elevation of Namadi Sambo as the Vice –President, the party’s fortune in the state has dwindled.
They also noted that the Vice-President was unable to control the party because “he lacked the political wherewithal to do so.” They then urged every state branch to join the New PDP.
While re-establishing their position, they said, “The PDP in Kaduna State therefore proudly and wholeheartedly identifies with the new leadership of the party, under Alhaji Kawu Baraje and follows in the footsteps of its sister chapters of Adamawa, Jigawa and Taraba states in setting up new leadership to give our party a new lease of life.”
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State chapter of the party declared their loyalty to the Tukur-led faction.
In a release by the PDP’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Ibrahim Mansur, said the state executive rejected any move to distabilise the party in the state by the former chairman.
According to a release by the PDP Public Relation Officer in Kaduna State, Ibrahim Mansur, the party will not entertain any plot to disorganize it in Kaduna.
“There is only one PDP, which is the one led by Bamanga Tukur, this much has been determined by a court of competent jurisdiction. The claim by the so called group is false and totally criminal, as the party is intact and united under the able leadership of Dr. A. G. Haruna.
“The PDP in Kaduna State remains undivided and one big family that is committed to the transformation agenda of our leader, His Excellency President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his vice, Sambo.” the statement stated.
