A senatorial candidate contesting under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State, Alhaji Ubale Shitu, has explained why he refused to sign peace accord alongside Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate at the state police command, yesterday.

Alhaji Shitu, a former deputy governor in the state, who was the only APC candidate at the meeting that refused to accent his signature, said his refusal was for security reasons.

According to him, he had consulted his lawyers and had been advised not to sign any agreement because nobody has power to control large number supporters during and even after the elections.

Though he did not give reasons why the two senatorial candidates of the APC, Sabo Nakudu and Alhaji Abdullahi Ojo did not turn up for the peace signing ceremony, he said his not signing the peace accord was his personal decision and not that of the party.

However, three senatorial flag bearers of the PDP in the state, Alhaji Abdulmumini Zareku, Jigawa Central, Senator Danladi Sankara, Jigawa North, and Alhaji Adamu Sarawa, attended and signed the peace fact documents.

All efforts by the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Muhammad Tilli to make the APC candidate sign the document was resisted.

It will be recalled that the Inspector General of Police had.
