A mamoth crowd, on Monday evening, welcomed Suleiman Hashimu, who reportedly trekked from Lagos to Abuja, in fulfilment of his promise to do so if the the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, now president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, wins his election.

Hashimu who was welcomed by well wishers and some APC supporters, wore sport wears and carried a strap bag with water bottle in his hand.

Strongly guarded by security operatives, he was reported to have embarked on his journey when Buhari was pronounced winner of the 2015 presidential elections on March 29.

Hashimu hails from Katsina State, where the president-elect comes from.

On his arrival to Abuja, he described his experience on the road as adventurous and remarkable.

He said the journey afforded him to meet a lot of people who, he said, showed him love.

According to him, while embarking on his journey, he had to trekked from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. everyday and sleeps in the nearest village he finds himself at night.

Suleiman, now called “the traveller,” arrived Abuja  on Monday night in a red Tee shirt, a sling bag and a water bottle with thousands of crowd cheering him on his success through the journey.

It will be recalled that the 33-year-old Suleiman arrived in Niger State, three days before, where he was given a rousing welcome from residents in the state.

His arrival in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, however, resulted into a heavy traffic, as commuters could not get direct vehicles to their destinations.

Suleiman disclosed that the journey was in fulfillment of a pledge he made two years ago, saying “I made the promise for this mission to show my love for the leader of the masses, General Muhammadu Buhari. For the 13-day journey I embarked upon, I have condemned five pairs of canvass shoes.

“I made adequate financial provisions for cross-country trek, but since my journey started, I haven’t spent anything from the money, since I’ve been warmly welcomed in every town or village I have passed.”
