The Vice-Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress, Chief Funso Ologunde, has denied being involved in a plot to oust the chairman of the party, Chief Henry Ajomale.
Ologunde said this while reacting to social media reports that he and the South-West women leader of the party, Mrs. Kemi Nelson, were plotting to remove Ajomale.
Ajomale had been asked by a party leader in the Ifako area of the state, Chief Ayo Akande, to resign for failing to ensure the victory of the APC in the Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of the state where Ajomale resides.
However, Ologunde, while addressing journalists at a press conference on Thursday, distanced himself and the party leaders from Akande’s comment.
He said the APC had also passed a vote of confidence in Ajomale, who had led the party to two governorship victories.
He said, “There is news being circulated in the social media that Mrs. Nelson and I are planning to remove the chairman. There is no truth in this. The party is one and we did very well in the elections.
“The people spreading this news are enemies of the party and you should pay them no attention. The party has issued a communiqué and passed a vote of confidence in Chief Akande, who has led us to several victories.”
Also speaking, Nelson, who is a former Commissioner for Women Affairs, said it was unfortunate that people were trying to cause division within the party at a time when the APC should be celebrating its victory.
She said, “Chief Ajomale and I were both members of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, so why would I plan a coup against him? I am a team player and I believe in the establishment. We have just won the federal and state elections and the next thing for us to do would be to oust our chairman? It doesn’t add up.
“It is a concocted lie from disgruntled elements. The chairman worked hard. I have no business with Chief Akande and we have taken a decision against his comment.”
